U.S. TO PROVIDE $24 MILLION EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE – It goes to Jamaica, Haiti, the Bahamas and Cuba after effect of Hurricane Melissa

The United States has announced 24 million dollars in emergency assistance for Caribbean nations devastated by Hurricane Melissa.

The Category Five storm tore through the region last week, cutting off communities and leaving at least fifty people dead.

The US State Department says specialist teams have already been deployed — to support immediate emergency response and assess longer-term humanitarian needs.

Under the package authorised by the Trump Administration — Jamaica will receive around 12 million dollars, Haiti eight and a half million, and the Bahamas five hundred thousand dollars.

Three million dollars has been allocated for Cuba — with Washington working through the Catholic Church to deliver supplies directly to the Cuban people, after Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a formal declaration of humanitarian need.

Hurricane Melissa is now being described as the most severe natural disaster to strike the Caribbean since the closure of the US Agency for International Development earlier this year.
