UK’S ‘SUPER-UNIVERSITY’ LAUNCHES IN SEPTEMBER-The new London and South East University Group is UK’s 3rd largest higher education institution
The UK’s first “super-university”, which will merge the universities of Greenwich and Kent, is set to launch in September.
The new London and South East University Group, to be known as the LASEUG, will have more than 50,000 students on four campuses across London, Medway and Kent, making it the third largest higher education institution in the UK.
The university will officially launch on 7 September, exactly one year after the plans were first announced and months after the Department for Education granted approval. The universities will still operate as separate academic divisions and retain their individual names and identities, as students study and graduate from their chosen institution. However, staff from both universities will be employed by the university group.
The University of Greenwich vice-chancellor and new chief executive of the new London and South East University Group, Prof Jane Harrington, said tireless work has been implemented since last year to develop an ambitious timetable and a new university model that is the first of its kind.
King’s College London and Cranfield University earlier this year, have also announced plans to merge in August 2027.
