VENEZUELA SIGNS SECURITY POWERS DECREE- President Maduro says the external-commotion decree is a safe guard against the United states
Venezuela’s Vice President Delcy Rodriguez has stated that president Nicolas Maduro has signed the “external commotion” decree that grants him special powers in the event of an external military incursion.
Last week Monday, Maduro had reportedly shown a folder with a label indicating it was the commotion decree that he was submitting for review by his advisers from the high courts and the Attorney General’s Office, among others.
Rodriguez in a meeting with diplomats said that the president maduro claims that the external-commotion decree is a safe guard against the United states to fend off any attack. Under the current constitution, a commotion decree remains in force for 90 days and can be extended once for another 90 days.
The decree would authorize the mobilization of armed forces throughout the country, taking military control of public services and the hydrocarbons industry, ensuring the full functioning of public services, and activating the militia within the nation’s integrated defense system.
