ARSENAL BEAT BRENTFORD 2-0 – Merino and Saka strikes re-establish Arsenal’s five-point lead over Man City
Arsenal secured a crucial 2-0 victory over a resilient Brentford side at the Emirates Stadium, immediately restoring their five-point advantage at the summit of the Premier League table. The goals came from striker Mikel Merino and talisman Bukayo Saka.
Merino, stepping up in the absence of the club’s typical starting forwards, continued his impressive run by scoring for the second consecutive match. Following his recent equaliser against Chelsea, he opened the scoring in the 11th minute, expertly heading home a cross from Ben White.
However, the Gunners were severely tested by the determined visitors. Goalkeeper David Raya had to produce a stunning, crucial save in the first half, brilliantly tipping a Kevin Schade header onto the crossbar to keep Arsenal ahead. The decisive moment came deep into stoppage time when Bukayo Saka finally found the net, scoring in the first minute of added time to seal the 2-0 win.
The result moves Arsenal five points clear of second-placed Manchester City, who had momentarily cut the lead with a thrilling 5-4 win over Fulham on Tuesday. Brentford remains in 13th position.
