There were 33 minutes on the clock at Wembley when Gareth Southgate decided that he had to do something before England descended into the kind of demented, frazzled state not seen in a major tournament since Brazil’s implosion in their World Cup semi-final against Germany seven years ago. Southgate being Southgate, a rather restrained gesture followed. There was no bellowing, no flinging of the arms, no rage as he plotted a way back into the semi-final. After all, it was a time for composure. England were a goal down to a smart and dangerous Denmark, their run of clean sheets ended by Mikkel…
THE SNP will seize control of the Commons later today, forcing a vote on the end of EU freedom of movement. As part of an opposition day debate, the Scottish party will hold a parliamentary vote on “regrets” at the Government’s decision to take back control of immigration after Brexit. The non-binding vote demands Prime Minister Boris Johnson devolve powers on immigration to the Scottish Government to create a Scottish visa or Scottish migration system. It will also push for an extension to the EU settlement scheme that gives EU nationals the right to remain in the UK after Brexit. The deadline for the…
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) said he was informed by some members of the U.S. military that they would quit if the armed forces mandated a COVID-19 vaccine, coming after a report claimed that Army headquarters told commanders to prepare for mandatory vaccinations in September. “I’ve been contacted by members of our voluntary military who say they will quit if the COVID vaccine is mandated. I introduced HR 3860 to prohibit any mandatory requirement that a member of the Armed Forces receive a vaccination against COVID-19. It now has 24 sponsors,” Massie wrote on Twitter. He didn’t provide more details. It isn’t clear…
The information commissioner has launched an investigation into health ministers’ use of private emails, prompted by revelations of Matt Hancock’s use of them for government business. The watchdog will probe the use of all private correspondence channels used by ministers – which could include tools like WhatsApp – after concerns were raised about the former health secretary’s email, as well as private emails from health minister Lord Bethell. The ICO has the power to seize evidence and even recommend criminal prosecution if information has been deliberately destroyed, altered or concealed. Hancock is reported to have routinely used a private account,…
Alvaro Morata once likened facing Giorgio Chiellini to trying to take a banana off a gorilla in a cage. Here, it looked as if he had taken something much, much bigger from him, but in the end it got snatched back. After an epic battle, that place in the final on Sunday is Italy’s, not Spain’s. For Luis Enrique’s side, and especially for the striker who had scored the goal that seemed to have saved Spain only to miss their last penalty, where there had been redemption there was now regret. As the ball eased slowly past Unai Simón, Italy’s players sprinted…
“We’re going to joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ; every day of this month, we will celebrate” — Pastor Chris Oyakhilome. The man of God Reverend (Dr.) Chris Oyakhilome pronounced July to be ‘the Month of Joy’ at the just concluded Global Communion Service. “This is the 7th month of the year, and God has a plan for us; we’re going to celebrate like never before,” he remarked amid effusive shouts of joy from the global audience. Reading from Nehemiah 8:10, Romans 5:11, Romans 14:17, and 1Peter 1:8, Pastor Chris spurred the global audience to remain in an…
The last time Enrique faced Italy at a tournament he had his nose broken in defeat, but he says revenge is not on his mind. Spain and Italy have history. Not only have the teams met five times in the last four European Championships – including the final at Euro 2012, which Spain won 4-0 – but their semi-final at Wembley also pits Luis Enrique against Italy for the first time since he suffered one of the great injustices of football history at the World Cup in 1994. The quarter-final between Italy and Spain at USA 94 produced one of the…
VAUXHALL is set to announce plans to build electric vans at their UK based Ellesmere Port plant in a massive boost for Post-Brexit Britain. The new deal will protect more than 1,000 jobs at the plant and comes after a massive U-turn from the firm. Parent company Stellantis previously warned it would not guarantee it would continue to invest in the UK plant. They said a decision one ether to build electric cars at the factory would hinge on Government support which appears to have been reached. Vauxhall is set to announce further details on the new plant at a…
LinkedIn has reinstated the account of mRNA vaccine technology inventor Dr. Robert Malone, who said his page was deleted last week after he made comments about mRNA COVID-19 vaccines and questioned whether they’re appropriate to give to certain groups of people. In a Twitter post on Monday evening, Malone said he’d received a “very kind and personal note from a senior executive of LinkedIn,” and shared, with permission, an anonymized version of the message. “Dr. Malone’s account has been fixed as of this morning,” the note from the LinkedIn official read. “I’d like to apologize on behalf of LinkedIn—we’re just not good enough at detangling…
CAR TAX Clean Air Zone proposals have been scrapped in Reading after a new report found the interaction of a charge would have a “marginal” benefit. Reading Council had looked into charging drivers for parking their vehicles at work to reduce the number of cars on the roads. The proposals would have also introduced a Clean Air Zone charging drivers of highly-polluting commercial vehicles for using the roads. The scheme was bookmarked for 2026/27 but new analysis means the plans have been ditched. A major sticking point came after analysis found almost 100 percent of vehicles would be below the…
