The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) said on Tuesday it had voted to approve a SpaceX plan to deploy some Starlink satellites at a lower earth orbit than planned as part of its push to offer space-based broadband internet. Elon Musk’s SpaceX had asked the FCC for approval to fly 2,824 satellites at a lower orbit as part of the plan to provide high-speed broadband internet services to people who currently lack access. The change in altitude would improve space safety, reduce power flux density emissions to improve the interference environment and lower “elevation angles to improve the customer experience,” SpaceX told…

And John Garvey, PwC’s global head of financial services stressed any deal on financial equivalence would happen in the long term. Responding to comments made by the EU’s Commissioner for Financial Services Mairead McGuinness, Mr Garvey said: “There’s going to be a strange relationship developing over time where the Europeans realise they need London. “So, I think there will be some kind of deal because the continent will need access to the London market. “I know…

The BBC host grilled the SNP leader over whether it is “shameful” that her Government is yet to release an economic projection of how independence will affect Scotland. Andrew Marr asked: “Don’t you think it’s shameful that a government looking to take Scotland out of the UK hasn’t even bothered to look at the impact on the economy?” Nicola Sturgeon snapped back: “If I was asking people a week on Thursday to vote on the question whether or not…

U.S. Special Climate Envoy John Kerry on Monday denied allegations stemming from leaked audio that suggested he disclosed the number of Israeli attacks on Iranian targets to Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. “I can tell you that this story and these allegations are unequivocally false. This never happened—either when I was Secretary of State or since,” Kerry wrote on Twitter. Kerry’s response was attached to a Twitter message by a Washington Post reporter who cited a State Department spokesperson saying that the Israeli attacks had already been disclosed by Israel itself. The Post reporter further shared a September 2018 Reuters story in which an Israeli official said that the…

BREXIT Britain received a stern threat by Spanish MEP Garcia Perez who claimed Brussels will ensure London will be “penalised” if it practices unfair competition on labour and environmental standards Addressing the European Parliament ahead of MEPs’ vote on the UK-EU Brexit agreement, the leader of the Social and Democrats group said Boris Johnson failed to keep his promises to Brexiteers as both Northern Ireland and Gibraltar remain effectively shackled to the EU. EU ministers are still continuing to finalise the details of a recent memorandum of understanding for future regulatory cooperation – four months after Brexit when the UK cut all ties with the bloc. The agreement, which was negotiated separately from the…
NICOLA STURGEON’S Scottish Government has suffered a major blow in its hopes to rejoin the EU, as its fiscal deficit soars. New data from the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) will be released this week, showing in 2020-21 the gap between public spending and tax revenues has risen to 22 to 25 percent of Scotland’s gross domestic product. It comes as a blow to the SNP’s hopes to rejoin the EU, as the deficit has hit eight times the acceptable limit set by the bloc, which is 3 percent of GDP. The EU has suspended its fiscal rules during the pandemic.…
