CHINA, INDONESIA PLAN TO DEEPEN SEA TIES- In a bid to push for early South China Sea code
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi after meeting his Indonesian counterpart, Sugiono, today stated that China and Indonesia will step up maritime cooperation and push for an early conclusion of negotiations on a South China Sea code of conduct.
Wang, in a joint media statement, said both nations are committed to fully implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea.
Wang, visiting Jakarta for the first time in two years, reportedly called for stronger policy coordination between Beijing and Jakarta at the United Nations and BRICS to oppose unilateralism and power politics.
The talks were part of the inaugural China-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue, a foreign minister-level mechanism intended to review bilateral cooperation and establish future priorities.
Following bilateral talks, defence and foreign policy leaders from both sides are scheduled to convene for a “2+2” session.
