CHURCH CONDEMN ANTISEMITIC ATTACKS – Bishops warn attacks “oppose Christian values”
Bishops from the Church in Wales have condemned a series of recent attacks targeting Jewish people in the UK, saying such incidents stand in direct opposition to Christian values and reaffirming solidarity with Jewish communities in Wales.
In a statement, the bishops said antisemitism has “no place within our society” and praised the UK’s historic role in offering refuge to Jewish people fleeing Nazi persecution. Their comments come amid a series of reported attacks on Jewish targets across the country, including a stabbing incident in north London last month which police declared a terrorist attack.
In another case, a Jewish man was reportedly assaulted in what community leaders have described as a deeply disturbing act, as concerns grow that antisemitism is becoming increasingly normalised and insufficiently challenged.
The statement follows a wider push for unity across faith groups, including an interfaith declaration in Cardiff calling for respect, dignity and an end to hate, while senior church figures including the Archbishop of Canterbury have recently met Jewish leaders to express support amid rising tensions.
