FIFA WORLD CUP ENGLAND DEFEAT DR CONGO 2-1  – Three Lions overcome early scare to book last-16 clash with Mexico

England survived a major scare to defeat DR Congo 2-1 and secure their place in the FIFA World Cup last 16. The Three Lions fell behind against determined opposition but responded with two goals to turn the match around and keep their tournament hopes alive.

Manager Thomas Tuchel’s side dominated possession for much of the contest but were tested by an organised Congolese team that threatened one of the biggest upsets of the competition. England eventually found the breakthrough they needed, showing resilience under pressure in the knockout stages.

The victory sends England into the last 16, where they will face Mexico after the co-hosts defeated Ecuador 2-0. While the result keeps England on course for a deep World Cup run, the performance highlighted areas Tuchel will want to improve before the next round as the competition enters its decisive phase. {JC}
