LABUBU HUMAN-SIZED FIGURINE SELLS FOR OVER $150,000 – Viral plush stuffed animals set record at Beijing auction

A Beijing auction house set a new record today by selling a human-sized Labubu figure for 1.08 million yuan, or about $150,000.

The auction, held by Yongle International Auction, marked the first-ever sale dedicated to Labubu — the toothy monster toys from China’s Pop Mart that have sparked a global craze.

With 48 lots on offer, roughly 200 people attended in person, while over a thousand bidders participated via Yongle’s app. The auction raised a total of 3.73 million yuan.

The top lot was a mint green Labubu, standing 131 cm tall, described as the only one of its kind in the world.

Labubu was created a decade ago by Hong Kong artist and illustrator Kasing Lung. In 2019, Lung agreed to let them be sold by Pop Mart, a Chinese toy company that markets collectable figurines often sold in “blind boxes”.
