MILIBAND WARNS IRAN OVER UK THREATS – Foreign Secretary tells Iran the UK will not tolerate hostile activity on British soil
Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband has warned Iran that the UK will not tolerate intimidation, threats or hostile activity on British soil.
Speaking after meeting Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at the UN General Assembly in New York, Miliband raised concerns over threats linked to Iran, including attacks targeting the British Jewish community.
The two ministers also discussed the conflict in the Middle East, with Miliband urging Iran to choose de-escalation and diplomacy. He also called for the Strait of Hormuz to be fully reopened, amid disruption to the vital international shipping route.
Miliband also raised the case of British couple Lindsay and Craig Foreman, who have been detained in Iran for more than 20 months. The Foreign Office says he reiterated the UK’s call for their immediate release and stressed that their welfare remains a priority.
