NETANYAHU SETS TERMS FOR IRAN DEAL – Israeli leader says any pact must dismantle nuclear program
Benjamin Netanyahu says he has told Donald Trump that any future agreement between the United States and Iran must go beyond limiting uranium enrichment and instead dismantle Tehran’s nuclear infrastructure entirely.
Speaking at the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, the Israeli prime minister expressed scepticism about ongoing negotiations but said a deal must include the removal of enriched material from Iran.
A second round of U.S.–Iran talks is expected this week as both sides try to resolve their long-running dispute over Tehran’s nuclear programme and avoid military escalation. U.S. officials say additional military assets have been deployed to the region as a precaution if diplomacy fails.
Netanyahu also said Israel is continuing operations in Gaza, stating that hundreds of kilometres of militant tunnels remain and must be destroyed.
He added that Israel aims to phase out reliance on American military aid within the next decade once the current assistance agreement expires.
