PALANTIR GRANTED UNRESTRICTED ACCESS TO NHS PATIENT DATA – Palantir has been granted an “admin” role within the National Data Integration Tenant
NHS England has confirmed that the U.S.-based firm Palantir has been granted an “admin” role within the National Data Integration Tenant (NDIT), providing the company with unlimited access to identifiable patient information. This level of access is part of the ongoing implementation of the £330 million Federated Data Platform, a centralized sharing system awarded to the tech company in 2023.
While the project aims to streamline healthcare operations, the discovery of such deep administrative privileges for an external contractor has sparked intense debate over the boundaries of data privacy in the public sector.
NHS leadership has privately acknowledged that this administrative shift risks a profound “loss of public confidence” in the safeguards surrounding patient records. Critics contend that granting a private entity unrestricted entry into identifiable medical histories could permanently damage the relationship between the health service and the public.
As the NDIT becomes a foundational part of the NHS’s digital strategy, the government must navigate the fallout of these revelations while attempting to justify the integration of “spy-tech” analytics into the heart of British healthcare.
