Paris prepares to welcome Pope Leo today as 40,000 security forces have been deployed throughout the city, with police officers and volunteers securing the Notre Dame Cathedral ahead of his arrival.
The extensive security preparations have seen police vans and officers being positioned at key locations near the historic cathedral. The security measures included police cars patrolling the area and plastic ribbon cordoning off sections near the cathedral.
Pope Leo’s France visit from September 25 to 28 , would reportedly include stops in Paris, at the famed Catholic facility in Lourdes, in the southwest, and in Metz, a city on the German border central to the founding of the European Union.
Over 600,000 people have reportedly registered to join an outdoor Mass in central Paris with the pope on Saturday, with throngs expected to stretch down the famed Avenue des Champs-Élysées.
Pope Leo is also set to reportedly lead a prayer service in Paris today, at the restored Notre-Dame cathedral.
