RASMUSSEN VOTES AS DENMARK WAITS ON RESULT – Centrist leader could decide next government

In Denmark’s parliamentary election, Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen has cast his vote in what could prove a decisive moment in the race for power.

Rasmussen, leader of the centrist Moderates, told reporters after voting that his party has run a positive campaign focused on domestic issues, while also preparing for what he called an increasingly uncertain global environment.

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called the election early, with observers noting it came amid a temporary boost in support following heightened tensions over Greenland and remarks from Donald Trump earlier this year.

But opinion polls suggest Frederiksen’s Social Democrats could be heading for one of their weakest results in decades, as voters express concern over living costs, public services and political fatigue after nearly seven years in office.

Attention is now turning to Rasmussen, who is widely seen as a potential kingmaker.

His decision to align either with Frederiksen’s governing bloc or with a right-leaning alternative could ultimately determine who forms Denmark’s next government.
