REEVES UNVEILS COST-OF-LIVING PLAN – Bus fare relief and tariff cuts planned to ease household pressure

Rachel Reeves has unveiled a package of measures aimed at tackling the cost-of-living crisis, including free bus travel for children and reductions in tariffs on a range of everyday food products.

Under the plans, children aged five to fifteen in England will be able to travel free on participating local bus services throughout August, in a scheme backed by around £100 million in government funding.

Ministers are also preparing to cut import tariffs on more than 100 goods, including biscuits, chocolate, dried fruit and nuts, with officials estimating the changes could deliver around £150 million in consumer savings.

The announcements come as the government faces renewed political pressure following recent local election losses, with the measures seen as part of efforts to ease household costs and restore public confidence in the economy.
