ROYALS BEGIN US VISIT DESPITE SHOOTING – State trip proceeds amid tensions and security concerns
King Charles III has begun a four-day state visit to the United States, pressing ahead despite a recent shooting at a high-profile event attended by Donald Trump.
The King, joined by Queen Camilla, is visiting to mark America’s 250th anniversary and reinforce historic ties between the two nations, even as tensions remain over the ongoing Iran conflict.
During the trip, King Charles is set to make history by becoming the first British monarch since Queen Elizabeth II in 1991 to address Congress. The royal couple will also meet President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, and attend a state dinner.
The visit will include a stop in New York, where the King will tour the 9/11 memorial, before travelling on to Bermuda — his first visit to a British overseas territory as monarch.
