TRUMP NAMES AI CZAR – Jay Clayton tasked with keeping US ahead in artificial intelligence
US President Donald Trump has named intelligence chief Jay Clayton as the administration’s AI czar, putting him in charge of a new task force aimed at keeping America ahead in artificial intelligence.
Clayton will lead the newly created Super Intelligence Force, which will coordinate the government’s work with AI companies, consumers, religious groups and other stakeholders.
The task force will have 120 days to assess the risks and opportunities posed by AI and recommend what role the federal government should play.
Trump has argued that heavy regulation could undermine US competitiveness with China. Clayton has warned that the risks of failing to lead in AI are high.
