UK-US TRADE TALKS ARE “MOVING IN A VERY POSITIVE WAY” – Trump’s Press Secretary Leavitt confirmed negotiations are advancing well
Trade negotiations between the United Kingdom and the United States are showing promising progress, according to the White House, offering renewed optimism for a long-anticipated agreement that could provide economic relief and deepen transatlantic ties.
Speaking at a recent press briefing, President Donald Trump’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, addressed questions on the current state of UK-US trade discussions. Leavitt confirmed that negotiations are advancing well, although she stopped short of offering specific details or a timeline for a final deal.
“As for the trade talks, I understand they are moving in a very positive way with the UK,” she said. “I don’t want to get ahead of the president or our trade team on where things stand exactly, but I’ve heard that the conversations with the UK have been very positive and productive.”
Her remarks come as officials in Westminster hope that a bilateral trade agreement could help counterbalance the economic impact of recent US tariffs imposed under the Trump administration. These tariffs, aimed at protecting American industries, have strained certain sectors of the UK economy, prompting calls for a broader trade framework to stabilize economic relations.
Leavitt added that President Trump continues to hold the UK in high regard, saying, “The president always speaks incredibly highly of the United Kingdom. He values the special relationship our two nations share and views a strong trade partnership as mutually beneficial.”
While no specific announcements were made, the tone of the White House’s comments has been widely interpreted as a sign of growing alignment between the two countries on key trade issues.
