US CONSIDERS SENDING 10,000 TROOPS TO THE GULF – The ground force would be in addition to the 5,000 marines and 2,000 paratroopers

The US is considering sending 10,000 more troops to the Middle East, supported by fighter jet squadrons and armoured vehicles.

The ground force would be in addition to the 5,000 marines and 2,000 paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division ordered to the Gulf earlier this week.

The troops would probably be stationed within striking distance of Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil export terminal, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Washington and Tehran are engaged in early peace negotiations, which Donald Trump has said are progressing “very well”.

On Thursday, the US president announced a 10-day extension to the ceasefire already in place. The pause on energy strikes will now expire on April 6 unless Iran reopens the Strait of Hormuz.

In a post on Truth Social, he said: “Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the fake news media and others, they are going very well.”
