WARNING: DRIVERS TARGETED BY QR CODE SCAM – A couple lost £370 to criminals using a fake parking payment link
Drivers are being warned about a car park QR code scam after a couple lost £370 to criminals using a fake parking payment link.
The couple, from North Tyneside, said scammers had placed a fraudulent QR code on a pay-and-display machine, directing them to a website designed to look like the legitimate RingGo parking app.
The scam is known as “quishing”, where fake QR codes are used to steal banking and card details. The RAC says such scams have increased sharply across Britain.
Drivers are advised to check QR codes for signs of tampering and, where possible, use the official parking app or website instead.
If a QR code looks suspicious, do not scan it or enter your bank details.
