AIR INDIA CEO VISITS SITE OF DEADLY CRASH IN AHMEDABAD – Air India said there was one survivor who was being treated in hospital

The chief executive officer of Air India, Campbell Wilson, arrived at the crash site of the London-bound plane in Ahmedabad, a day after the jet had hurtled to the ground, killing more than 240 people.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, with 242 people on board, was headed for Gatwick Airport, south of the British capital and crashed into a medical college hostel during lunch hour on Thursday, June 12th.

Rescuers searched for missing people and aircraft debris in charred buildings on Friday, and sniffer dogs were deployed at the site.

One black box has been recovered from the crash site, police sources have told reporters, and India is considering grounding Air India’s Dreamliner fleet for safety checks, local media NDTV reported.

Investigators will begin analysing information from the black box, which often holds key information that can help them work out the causes behind plane crashes.

Air India has said the investigation would take time. Planemaker Boeing has said a team of experts is ready to go to India to help in the probe.

In a statement, Air India said there was one survivor who was being treated in hospital. The known surviving passenger was in seat 11A, next to an emergency exit, a top state police officer said.
