COUNCILLOR PROBED FOR MIGRANT HOTEL QUERY – Councillor Edwards faces police, council action over questions on Afghan hotel housing

Sandhurst councillor John Edwards has been reported to police and is under investigation by Bracknell Forest Council after raising concerns in April about 300 Afghan migrants being housed at a Bracknell hotel. Edwards questioned why they were placed there while local veterans remained homeless and asked if the move would impact the council housing list.

A fellow borough councillor accused Edwards of “stirring up hate” and spreading “far-right propaganda.” The Afghans had reportedly come to the UK after a leak of applicants’ names seeking asylum.

Edwards denies any wrongdoing and says his comments were based on facts, and it’s his job to ask questions. He claims the investigation is a political attempt to silence dissent, arguing, “This isn’t about how I scrutinised policy, but which policy I scrutinised.”
