FOREIGN MINISTER AT EU SUMMIT TO MARK RESET WITH EU

FOREIGN MINISTER AT EU SUMMIT TO MARK RESET WITH EU – Labour has ruled out rejoining the EU single market or customs union

Foreign Minister David Lammy said that his presence at a European Union foreign ministers meeting in Luxembourg marked another important step in Britain’s aims to ‘reset’ relations with the EU following Brexit.

“An historic moment that marks our EU reset,” said Lammy, as he arrived at the meeting in Luxembourg.  “The UK and Europe’s security is indivisible,” he added.

Before meeting with Lammy, the European Union’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said he wants to lay the foundations for a stronger bond between the EU and the United Kingdom.

The Labour Party has ruled out rejoining the EU single market or customs union but has said it is possible to remove some trade barriers with the 27-nation bloc, which Britain left in 2020.
