Ay-meric Laporte rejoined Athletic Bilbao from Al Nassr, penning a three-year deal until the end of June 2028.
Aymeric’s move had fallen through after the Saudi club had reportedly failed to send through the required paperwork in time before the close of the transfer window.
FIFA, who had initially rejected the Spanish club’s appeal for an exception to be made, then “authorised the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to obtain an International Transfer Certificate (ITC) from the Saudi Arabian Football Federation”, according to a statement from Athletic on Thursday.
The Spanish defender made 222 appearances for Athletic from 2012 to 2018 before moving to Manchester City and then Al Nassr in August 2023.
