ORBAN REJECTS EURO, WARNS EU IS FRACTURING — Hungarian leader says bloc is disintegrating

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has declared that Hungary should not adopt the euro. He argued that the European Union is “disintegrating” and deeper economic ties would damage national sovereignty.

Orban also criticised Hungary’s current interest rate policy, claiming it is too high at 6.5%. His remarks sharpen long-running tensions with EU leaders, who view euro adoption as central to integration.

Opposition figures accused him of isolating Hungary from Europe’s financial stability.

The timing adds weight ahead of Hungary’s 2026 elections, where EU policy is a key issue. Brussels has yet to formally respond to Orban’s comments.
