SOUTH KOREA’S ACTING PRESIDENT VOWS TO FIND ‘WIN-WIN’ SOLUTION – South Korea is among the first countries the Trump administration has initiated trade talks with

South Korea’s acting president Han Duck-soo said that the government will do its best to find a ‘win-win’ solution in the upcoming trade talks with the United States.

A South Korean delegation will meet U.S. counterparts today for an opening round of trade talks, with cooperation on shipbuilding and energy expected to be on the agenda, and possibly shared defence costs, as Seoul seeks lower tariffs.

South Korea, which faces 25% U.S. reciprocal tariffs, is among the first countries the Trump administration has initiated trade talks with, after its first face-to-face discussions last week with Japan, another key Asian ally slapped with 24% tariffs.

Speaking at the National Assembly, Han also urged the parliament to swiftly approve the proposed supplementary budget for economy recovery and advancement.

South Korea’s government proposed on last Friday (April 18) a supplementary 12.2 trillion won ($8.60 billion) budget to counter heightening risks to economic growth in the face of a global trade war and domestic political uncertainty.
