TRUMP PLEDGES DE-ESCALATION IN MINNESOTA – President says tensions will ease as federal talks continue

U.S President Donald Trump says he plans to “de-escalate a little bit” in Minnesota following weeks of unrest tied to the presence of federal immigration officers in Minneapolis.

Trump’s comments come after two people were fatally shot by federal agents during immigration enforcement operations in the city, drawing protests and national scrutiny.

The White House has also moved to reduce tensions on the ground. The president’s border czar met with Minnesota’s governor and Minneapolis’ mayor in a bid to find common ground and address community concerns.

In addition, federal leadership changes are underway: a senior immigration enforcement commander has been reassigned amid criticism of the operation.

Trump also voiced support for Homeland Security leadership. The administration’s efforts to ease the standoff come as several reportedly paid protesters and aggressive vigilante groups have called for a reduction in federal agents and transparent reviews of the fatal incidents.
