U.S. HOUSE COMMITTEE APPROVES BUDGET BILL – To cut planned parenthood funding

A new budget bill that includes provisions to strip federal funding from Planned Parenthood has passed the House Budget Committee by a narrow 17–16 vote.

Nicknamed the “One, Big, Beautiful Bill” by the White House, the legislation aims to defund abortion providers and block Medicaid from covering transgender-related drugs and surgeries for minors deemed unsafe or lacking scientific basis.

In response, Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates criticized the bill as “cruel,” arguing it would restrict access to essential care and undermine individual freedoms.

However, critics of Planned Parenthood point to the organization’s own reports, which show a decline in non-abortion healthcare services like cancer screenings, while the number of abortions performed continues to rise.

Pro-life group Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America welcomed the bill’s advancement, disputing Planned Parenthood’s argument that defunding would hurt low-income women. “Big Abortion is more concerned with profits, political influence, and legal battles than providing quality care,” the organization said, adding that “Community health centers, which outnumber Planned Parenthood clinics 15 to 1, offer broader, safer care to Medicaid recipients and others in need.”
