U.S. LAUNCHES NEW STRIKES ON IRAN – Trump vows to keep Hormuz shipping open
The United States has launched fresh military strikes on Iran after attacks on three cargo ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz heightened tensions in the Gulf.
President Donald Trump said the U.S. had hit Iran “very hard” and vowed to keep the strategic waterway open after declaring that the interim peace agreement between Washington and Tehran was “over.”
The U.S. military says the latest strikes are aimed at protecting freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route that carries around a fifth of the world’s oil supplies.
Iran has not claimed responsibility for the attacks on the cargo ships, but the incident has further escalated fears of a wider conflict and renewed disruption to global energy markets.
