U.S. TO PHASE OUT MANY SYNTHETIC FOOD DYES – The FDA ie said it plans to authorize four new natural color additives in the coming weeks

U.S. Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Marty Makary said the FDA plans to remove petroleum-based synthetic food dyes from the U.S. food supply, citing studies that have raised concerns about the link between dyes and health conditions like ADHD, obesity and diabetes.

Speaking at a press conference in Washington, Makary said the agency would begin the process to revoke authorization for two synthetic food colorings within the coming months and would work with industry to eliminate six other dyes by the end of next year.

“We can’t continue to exist like this. The problem is, industry is making money on keeping us sick,” said Robert F. Kennedy JR., Health and Human Services Secretary at the press conference.

The Food and Drug Administration, in a press release said it plans to authorize four new natural color additives in the coming weeks, while also accelerating the review and approval of others.
