UK ADULTS SPENDING MORE TIME ONLINE – UK survey finds adults online 31 minutes longer daily, with children citing ‘brain rot’
UK adults are spending more time online than during the pandemic. Ofcom’s Online Nation report says the average adult now spends four and a half hours a day online — 31 minutes longer than in 2021.
Fewer adults believe the internet benefits society, though most still see its advantages, including creativity and learning.
Children aged 8 to 17 enjoy being online but report negative effects from excessive use, calling it “brain rot.” Late-night usage is common, especially on YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat and WhatsApp.
VPN use has surged after new age checks on adult sites, while teens also use online tools like ASMR videos to relax. However, many report harmful content in self-improvement media, including body shaming.
